S100/185

The S-100/185 is a two-day basic fire suppression and wildfire safety course required for anyone helping suppress forest fires. Learners are trained and assessed through classroom and field components on suppression techniques and, as of 2026, S-185 fire entrapment avoidance and safety. It is required to meet the fire fighting training requirements under Section 26.3.1 of B.C.'s Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.

To receive your credentials you must attend and complete the entirety of the course and complete all the necessary components as required by the course provider.

Important: S-100 certification is valid for one year. Renew it with the one-day S-100A annual refresher (4 hours, classroom only — no field component) as long as you have taken the S-100 or S-100A within the last five years. If more than five years have passed since either course, the full two-day S-100 (16 hours, classroom + field) must be retaken.
